SPECK Pumpen
Speck Pumpen is a leading German pump manufacturer focusing on innovative and modern technologies with a history dating back to the early last century. The BADU brand provides comprehensive solutions for both the private and public sectors. SPECK Pumpen is not just about pool filtration pumps; it also offers a wide range of water attractions. The commercial program is divided into three segments: Allround, Premium, and Public. The company Speck Pumpen also produces pumps under the Aquatechnix line.
Swimming Pool Pumps
In the construction of a filtration pump, we distinguish: motor, impeller, mechanical seal, body, suction and discharge ports, sealing cover, flange. Most pumps are also equipped with a pre-filter, otherwise known as a lint catcher, which protects against contaminants. The pre-filter basket should be cleaned regularly, at certain intervals. A filled basket reduces the efficiency of the filtration system. BADU pumps have a transparent cover with a screw cap, allowing for visual inspection of the state of pre-filter contamination. Speck offers several types of motors, among which we distinguish:
- Single-phase asynchronous motor (with thermal protection, except for the 21-… pump line),
- Three-phase asynchronous motor (without thermal protection),
- Synchronous motor (PM) with permanent magnets (which can only be used with a frequency converter), synchronous motor (PM) with integrated frequency converter (e.g. BADU DELTA Eco VS). The construction of Speck’s swimming pool pumps includes constant separation between electrical parts and water-carrying hydraulic parts.
The manufacturer offers self-priming and normally priming pumps. What are the basic differences?
Self-priming pumps are capable of automatically drawing air out of the suction pipe after being filled with water once. This means that, unlike normal pumps, they can evacuate air. This function is important when using vacuums or when the pump is mounted above the water level. Self-priming tests are carried out in accordance with European standard EN 16713-2:2016.
Normally priming pumps, in comparison to self-priming pumps, are not able to draw air out of the suction pipe. In practice, they must be installed below the water level and require completely filled pipes. Therefore, they are not commonly used in pool filtration systems but are used as pumps for water attractions.
In addition to pumps for private pools, BADU offers pumps for public pools. This group includes high-performance Resort pumps for hotel pools and wellness centers, as well as block pumps for water parks: BADU Block, Normblock, and Normblock Multi, designed and built for individual requirements.
BADU’s product range also includes Messwasserpumpe self-priming measuring pumps for water analysis in public pools. They are made of corrosion-resistant materials for continuous water analysis in the pool.
Speck Pumpen also offers pumps for saltwater, brackish, and sea water, marked with the prefix AK. These pumps differ in the materials from which their individual components are made. The use of stainless steel screws, pump seals, and mechanical seals made from SiC/Viton provide effective protection against corrosion.
The choice of filtration pump is primarily dependent on the size of the pool and circulation time, but hydraulic pressure losses should also be considered. The greater the volumetric flow rate through the pipe, the greater the hydraulic pressure losses that must be compensated by the pump’s pressure. To determine the required flow rate Q of the pump, the total lifting height H must be established. The total lifting height H consists of: filter pressure loss, flow resistance loss in the pipes, and changes in height on both the suction and discharge sides.
Counter-currents
Among the rich offer of BADU counter-currents, one can distinguish units with many variants: powered by single-phase or three-phase power, equipped with one or two nozzles, with a cover made of ABS plastic or stainless steel, equipped with handles, with white or multicolor LED lighting, installable in a wall or hanging. The most popular models include BADU Jet Vogue, BADU Jet Primavera, and their Deluxe versions.
New for the 2020 season: BADU JET Turbo Pro, a swimming turbine tested by professional athletes, available in two front cover variants. It has a capacity of 350 m3/h while maintaining very quiet operation. The design is particularly safe, as all hydraulic elements are hermetically separated from the pool water.
Accessories and BADU product extensions
Valves
Among the accessories, special attention should be paid to the automatic backwash valve – BADU Omnitronic, which is a reliable alternative to manual units. The digital timer automatically initiates the backwash procedure according to periodically or timed controlled settings. All functions and parameters can be set individually. Backwash and rinse cycles can be activated automatically, manually, or externally. BADU Omnitronic can be used as a temperature and water level regulator.
Inverters
Speck offers pumps with integrated inverters (frequency converters), but also inverters as separate devices. BADU Eco Drive II 0.75 kW – 55 kW has a quick-start menu for initial operation, and the graphic display facilitates operation. The device has diverse programming, time control, and an additional analog input.
Solar Collectors
BADU BK are environmentally friendly solar collectors. They are available in two versions to facilitate the calculation of the area required to obtain optimal pool heat: BADU BK 250 and BADU BK 370 differ in size, weight, and flow rate. The choice depends on environmental conditions such as installation location and pool size. The general rule for pools is about 0.7 m² of solar collector area per one square meter of pool area.
